Delft

icon walking

Delft is known as the Royal city, since members of the Dutch Royal Family are buried in the New Church on the market square. In Delft the history of the House of Orange, the Royal Family, will come to life.

In the market square we can’t miss the beautiful 17th century town hall. Often you will find rice at the doorstep since today it is a popular place for young couples to get married.

Delft is also the home town of the famous 17th century painter Johannes Vermeer. It was here that he painted his best-known painting ‘Girl with a Pearl Earring’, which is on display in the Mauritshuis museum in The Hague.

Last but not least, Delft is known for its Delft Blue pottery, beautifully hand-painted earthenware. A visit to one of the two remaining factories is recommended.

A visit to Delft can easily be combined with a visit to Rotterdam or The Hague.
